a Berkhamsted of the future, set in a clean and pollution free environment
People work, shop and play locally, which means fewer cars, lower emissions, pollution and
no parking problems or traffic jams. Local residents are healthier and fitter because they
walk or cycle and it is safe to do so.
Many people grow food in the garden or on shared allotments. Kids enjoy growing and eating
healthy food. Fresh food can also be bought, sold or exchanged in the town.
The shops and market are places where people meet and talk in a friendly way, reinforcing the
sense of pride in sustaining the local community and solving local issues. Parents, families and
teenagers linger there, walking and talking on their way to and from school.
Others work from home, making use of the ultra-efficient technology powered by renewable energy.
They design durable and recyclable products to make best use of the planet's precious and limited
resources.
There are places where young and old can meet and be intellectually and creatively stimulated,
doing things together. People have a pride in their environment and respect it's roots. The
locality has a constructive problem solving 'buzz' to it where clothes, cuisine and culture,
are creatively produced.
What is your vision for a sustainable future?
How could you contribute to take us there?
